Who should attend?
This seminar is ideal for professionals working in:
- Automotive powertrain and drivetrain development
- Transmission and driveline NVH testing
- Industrial rotating machinery analysis
- Engine and turbine test cell operations
- University and research lab environments
If your work involves understanding what’s happening inside a rotating drivetrain — and making defensible measurement decisions — this seminar was built for you.

What you will learn
Day 1 — Spectral Transformation & Harmonic Analysis
The first day builds the theoretical and software foundations of spectral analysis as applied to torsional vibrations. You will leave Day 1 able to accurately distinguish between physical harmonic issues and digital noise in rotating machinery — a critical skill for any serious test engineer.
- Deep-dive review of Continuous, Discrete, and Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT)
- Animation-based learning of FFT mechanics, including integral and derivative functions
- Signal integrity: leakage, aliasing, and sampling transformation in discrete FFT
- Amplitude damping in speed measurement and the reference of order spectra
- Hands-on implementation of FFT window functions, speed ramp filters, and ramp removal in ROTEC RASdelta software
Day 2 — Filter Technology & Signal Processing
Day two covers advanced signal processing and filtering techniques that maintain the temporal alignment of data — ensuring that filtered vibration peaks correspond exactly to their real-world mechanical positions. Precision that matters when diagnosing complex drivetrain behavior.
- Analysis of basic filter types, characteristics, and transfer behavior
- Hands-on filtering of signals within the ROTEC software suite
- Phase-neutral processing: implementing filters without phase shift for accurate time-domain correlation
- Summation methods: comparing time domain vs. spectral domain summation and the impact of window functions
- Integration of speed signals and filtering techniques within the spectrum
Day 3 (Half Day) — Advanced Applications & Open Forum
The final session expands into real-world applications, specialized hardware, and an open discussion of your specific measurement challenges.
• Specialized sensor deep-dive: ROTEC Laser Sensors (Laser Tachometer 3), speed sensors, and strain gauge applications
• Environmental and hardware factors: temperature board applications and proper grounding in complex test environments
• Live demonstration using the ROTEC Engineering Demo Vehicle
• Open forum: bring your own measurement challenges — error source identification, industrial application edge cases, and more
